Liturgical and Practical Considerations Around End-of-Life Planning

There are many traditions and customs around end of life that are part of our culture, identity and faith journey. Fr. Abundo will highlight some of the main traditions that give meaning to this time of life, and share what the Church teaches around end of life, cremation, scattering, the importance of prayer and community for healing.

Fr. Amador Abundo studied Theology at Holy Rosary Major Seminary in Naga City, Philippines and was ordained a priest on December 7th 1977 by the late Most Rev. Jose C. Sorra, DD, first Bishop of the Diocese of Virac. Fr. Abundo has been with the Archdiocese of Vancouver since 1996 and is currently the pastor at Immaculate Conception Delta.

Writing a Will

The legal and financial world around estate, wills and legacy can be confusing. Henrietta will discuss how to make sure your family is left with as much as possible while giving to the charities you care about. She will also discuss some important features to keep in mind when writing a will as well as what to do after you have already completed your will.

Henrietta Lam is a Gift Planning Officer at the Archdiocese of Vancouver.  With their three children, she and her husband are parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Vancouver, where she volunteers as a leader of Alpha, an evangelization ministry. While Henrietta sees working and volunteering for the church as personally fun and an endurance sport, she also enjoys running, kickboxing, and most importantly, spending quality time with family and friends.


Advance Care Planning Considerations

Dr. Lawrence Yang will offer a professional Catholic perspective on how to write your wishes and values for future health care treatment in the event you become incapable of deciding for yourself. Dr. Lawrence will share practical tips and experiences on preventative measures and resources about advance care planning.

Dr. Lawrence Yang is a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Delta Parish and works as a Family Doctor at the Gateway Medical Center in Surrey. Dr. Lawrence experiences the greatest satisfaction in the small ‘wins’, the short intimate interactions with patients where he feels he has had a positive impact on their lives.


Planning for Sacred Burial

Brenda Villaraza will talk about what Gardens of Gethsemani, the only full service Catholic Cemetery in the Lower Mainland, offers the Catholic Community, and will share practical information about setting aside your sacred space.

Brenda and her husband are parishioners at Our Lady of Good Counsel. She has worked for Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery for 12 years and is currently a family services advisor. She helps families navigate sacred burial at the cemetery with compassion and respect. Brenda speaks Tagalog, Italian and Spanish.

Cynthia Tamondong has been a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Parish, Delta for almost 30 years performing various volunteer roles; A self-employed financial planning advisor for over 20 years providing services in life insurance and investments. 4 years ago, she joined Elements Cremation, Pre-Planning and Burial to expand her practice to include pre-need planning and at need services.
